About Our Kits
Our cushion and pillow kits are thoughtfully designed for both beauty and ease. Most measure 38 x 38 cm (15 x 15 inches)—the perfect size to bring a touch of luxury to your sofa or long-lasting softness to your favourite chair.
Each design offers a unique character and stitching experience. Kits like Canyon, Tempo, Flores and the Futuras are wonderfully relaxing—ideal for beginners and seasoned stitchers alike. For those looking for more of a challenge, Makam and Kumo provide intricate, rewarding projects suited to more experienced hands.
Inspired by a 16th-century Elizabethan Sweetie Pillow, our Mini kits are petite at 11.5 x 11.5 cm (4.5 x 4.5 inches)—perfect as starter projects or thoughtful gifts. These charming little kits use adapted designs from our larger cushions, so if you enjoy stitching a Sweetie, you’ll love progressing to a full-size cushion. They’re ideal for making a relaxing herb pillow, pin cushion, or a little pillow for your sweetie.
Every POMPOM kit is crafted using the highest quality materials, and comes with everything you need to complete your project—plus a few extras, just in case.
All kits include:

• 100% pure new wool (Anchor or Appletons Tapisserie yarn)
• Size 18 needlepoint needles (we include an extra in our larger kits—just in case one goes missing!)

The Canvas
POMPOM Needlepoint kits are offered with either a full-colour printed canvas or a blank canvas accompanied by a printed chart. We use 12hpi (holes per inch) canvas for our Basketweave stitch designs and a larger 10hpi canvas for our Victorian Cross Stitch kits—striking the perfect balance between detail and ease of stitching.
Our canvases are crafted by Zweigart, a prestigious German manufacturer founded in 1877, made from starched, pure white 100% cotton, and printed in rural Devon by a specialist artisanal printmaker. Using environmentally friendly, water-based inks ensures a beautiful, sustainable finish. The result is a canvas that is visually rich, durable, versatile, and a genuine pleasure to stitch.
The Yarn
Our kits include generous amounts of super-soft, 100% pure new wool yarn. We currently use Anchor Tapisserie yarn by Coats—a premium, professional-grade needlepoint yarn that’s colourfast, mothproofed, and known for its exceptional quality and rich colour palette. This allows us to craft distinctive, vibrant designs with beautiful tonal depth and long-lasting durability.
Starting in 2025, we will be transitioning to Appleton’s Tapestry Wool. This heritage British yarn is sourced from the Yorkshire wool markets and is both dyed and spun in the UK. With its deep roots in British textile tradition and commitment to quality, Appleton’s will bring an even more sustainable and locally focused dimension to our kits—without compromising on colour, softness, or stitchability.
Stitching
Our kits are designed for two main stitching techniques—Basketweave Tent Stitch and Victorian Cross Stitch—giving you flexibility depending on your preference and stitching style.
Basketweave Tent Stitch is ideal when using a frame and is one of the most durable and refined stitches available. It covers both the front and back of the canvas, creating a beautifully soft yet exceptionally hard-wearing new textile. This stitch is perfect for long-lasting cushions and home accessories.
You’re also welcome to use Half Cross Stitch or Continental Tent Stitch—we include clear instructions for all three options.
Alternatively, Victorian Cross Stitch is stitched without a frame, making it highly portable—great for stitching on the go or while travelling. This stitch creates a double-thickness finish that is both extra luxurious and rugged enough for projects like rugs or heavy-use cushions.
To ensure peace of mind, every kit comes with a generous amount of yarn, including extra in each colour beyond calculated needs. If you ever run out, just let us know—we’re happy to send a replacement free of charge.
