Profiles
Founded by award-winning artist Helena Benz, POMPOM draws inspiration from Modernism, the Slow Movement, and a renewed cultural passion for creativity and hands-on making.
Helena Benz Founder-Director After studying painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, Helena Benz built a successful, award-winning career as both an artist and academic. Alongside her work in the fine arts, she’s long been passionate about design, textiles, print, interiors—and above all, needlepoint. Helena founded POMPOM Design in 2011, born from a simple realisation: “If I wanted to stitch contemporary, design-led needlepoint projects that were beautiful, high quality, a joy to make—and looked amazing on my sofa—there was a really good chance other people would want that too.” That spark led to POMPOM: a celebration of colour, creativity, and thoughtful craft. Favourite Designers/Artists Annie Albers, Elise Djo-Bourgeois, Gunta Stölzl, Liubov Popova, Sonya Delaunay, Ruth Hollós-Consemüller, Betty Joel, Varvara Stepanova. Dan Rambaut Designer Dan is a London-based freelance textile designer with a background in print, pattern, and contemporary surface design. Dan joined POMPOM in 2012 as a designer, bringing with him a deep appreciation for handcrafted work and a passion for interiors, textiles, and surface pattern. His creative influences range from Modernist design, graphic art, and architecture to a fresh, contemporary interpretation of traditional textile techniques.
